PhD Ambassador in region Brittany, holder of a PhD in Sport Sciences (STAPS), Pierre Plantard founded and leads Moovency, a startup that markets KIMEA, an ergonomic analysis tool used internationally.

I earned my PhD in Sport Sciences (STAPS) from Université Rennes 2 in 2016, as part of the Movement, Sport, Health research unit. There, I developed an automated method for assessing the occupational risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
The CIFRE program enabled me to apply this new computer vision technology in the industrial world, resulting in a prototype software.
In 2018, I co-founded Moovency, a startup born from my research, which markets KIMEA, an ergonomic analysis tool used internationally. Today, Moovency employs 23 people and serves over a hundred clients.
I am deeply committed to actively promoting research and research-based education, which I consider the very essence of the university.
Firmly convinced that PhDs are professionals trained to autonomously manage complex issues from start to finish, I strive to challenge misconceptions about the PhD. While a PhD certainly enables hyperspecialization, it also fosters valuable skills such as versatility and adaptability, which remain underappreciated in the job market.
Having transitioned from academia to entrepreneurship, I advocate for strengthening the bridge between these worlds - both for PhD candidates and businesses.
Recently, I supervised a CIFRE doctoral student who successfully defended her thesis in 2024 and is now pursuing her career as a postdoctoral researcher at the prestigious Harvard University.
This mentorship reflects my commitment to innovation and to fostering stronger ties between research and industry.
